A lifting magnet is an electromagnetic device that is used to lift metal items in a safe and secure manner. They are an ideal solution to lifting loads where only the top surface can be lifted from or in applications where slings and other methods are not acceptable. They are designed to lift loads in the 300 lbs- 22,000 lbs range and are often favoured for use in environments where electricity is not available and where heavy lifting needs to remain fast, effective and safe.
There are several types of Lifting Magnets that we offer from small hand operated magnets, ideal for steel sheet lifting to large battery operated permanent lifting magnets which can lift up to 3 Tonnes (3,000kg). Larger magnets are typically operated by hanging them from a chain that remains attached to a crane. These magnets are commonly used in applications such as demolition and clean-up, construction and automobile junking. They are also used to lift metal shards from construction sites, which in turn, minimises the probability of injury incidents and vehicle-tire damage cases.
Lifting magnets are divided into multiple categories including permanent lifting magnets and electro-permanent lifting magnets. Manually-switched permanent lifting magnets can be used to lift flat round ferromagnetic objects that can be as heavy as 1000 kg. More specifically, such magnets can be used to lift machine parts, work pieces or steel loads from locations without using electricity. The specialty of electro-permanent lifting magnets lies in the fact that they use electricity for less than one second to activate or deactivate their magnetic power. This means that they do not need electric power to hold loads and in case of power failure, the load will still remain attached to the magnet. Electro-permanent lifting magnets appear as battery-powered models as well as mains electricity- activated versions.
Cranes-UK supply a versatile range of Lifting Magnets such as models designed for lifting thin plates and models designed for lifting disks. We are able to advise on which lifting magnet you need depending on the purpose and the types of loads that need to be lifted. Each magnet comes with a test report and a unique serial number that further testifies equipment safety and efficacy.
